It's about that time--not only to start sneezing regularly and washing pollen dust off your car, but that the home market starts booming! If you've considered moving (or haven't thought about it!) Here are some things to consider.

If you are contemplating relocating to another area, (say Indiana to Kentucky or vice versa) consider the cost of living. Not just food, utilities, shelter and transportation, but additional things like taxes and health care. These vary from state to state, sometimes quite significantly! You know our team LOVES Dave Ramsey, so if you have more questions about relocation, or want to use his cost of living calculator--you can find more information here: Dave Ramsey Cost of Living Calculator

If you've just outgrown your house or don't need so many extra rooms anymore, now is a GREAT time to "right-size". It is a very hot seller's market, which means you will get top dollar for your home. We have found that people who bought a house in the past year have even increased in value--sometimes by as much as % in just a few months! If you want to know the value of your home or would consider a move, please contact us today!

When moving, Here are some  favorite tips and tricks to remember:

  1. Declutter and donate. Do this a few months out — long before you start packing. Break it into manageable chunks by planning to do one room a week.
  2. Tell friends and family about your potential move day and see if you need to hire movers or just need to order pizza for them! If you do need to hire movers, check with us for recommendations. Be careful of non-reputable moving companies that can tack on extra fees.
  3. Pack an overnight bag for each member of the family. Make sure to include snacks, water, a few cleaning supplies and paper products!

  4. Get creative with packing materials. Consider using hand towels, dishcloths, blankets, socks and other soft belongings instead. (They need to be packed anyway, after all.)

  5. Label boxes systematically. Start with closets and guest rooms and things you don't use every day. Use colored duct tape to differentiate boxes for rooms and make them easy to spot. Write a short list on the outside of the box so you can find which kitchen boxes you need to unpack first.

  6. Plan for your pets and kids to stay with a friend or relative on moving day. If that's not possible, make sure to have a special moving day treat--coloring book, game, movie or something to keep little ones occupied.
