March Landscape Tips

Lawn Tips:

  • Seed your lawn this month if you did not do so in the fall. (Fertilize with high nitrogen content) 
  • Grass won't germinate until the soil temperatures hit low 60's, so wait if it's a cold spring!
  • Start mowing this month for a healthy lawn.
  • Use a pre-emergent herbicide to control crabgrass when the forsythia bloom.
  • Lime your soil this month.

Planting Tips:

  • Plant rhubarb early March and cool-season crops such as cabbage, turnips, carrots, broccoli and lettuce Mid-March.
  • Spray fruit trees and berry plants with dormant oil.
  • Fertilize flower beds, transplant cool-season flowers (pansies, primrose, snapdragons) outdoors
  • Divide Perennials in late March and plant new ones-Choices for sunny areas include Day Lilies, Yarrow, Phlox and Coneflowers. Shade-loving options are Columbines, Hostas and Ferns.
